Coffee Bean Bookshelf

I'm a 32 year old mom of two who loves to read (obviously)! I'll read just about anything - if it sounds interesting, it makes it's way to my to-read pile!

Currently reading

How My Summer Went Up in Flames
Jennifer Salvato Doktorski
The Cuckoo's Calling
Robert Galbraith
Empty - Suzanne Weyn A scary (and probably VERY real) look into what our world could look like in 10 years. The oil boom that we currently have has come to an end, and there is no oil. That means no gas, no fuel to deliver supplies (food, pharmaceuticals, etc), no plastic, no heat...our world is 100% reliant on oil. THAT is why it's a scary thought. This story *could* come true.

Parts of it were hardly believable, but I forgive that because the story was engrossing and...well...mostly real. Yes, there's the typical love-triangle, and that *tries* to take an important part of the novel, but for me, it didn't. I was more interested in the survival of these characters than their teenage love lives, so it barely registered.

Honestly, people should read this book. Maybe it's not what you want to read about our society, but it's TRUE. I'm not a tree-hugging hippie by any means (I use my car, I use probably more electricity than necessary, I waste food, and throw away things that I could recycle or could be reused), but probably we should start thinking at least a little bit about this issue.
